The Game Plan for Ballarat – with Blake Redden (@BlakeRedden)
Best Bets ($40 win)
Mumbai Majik (Race 1 No.5) $7.50
I really liked the way this guy was shaping up in his first 9 starts because he was running well and trialling well without a whole deal of luck. Things went his way however in his last two starts for him to win at monster odds both times. Don’t let that fool you however, he is a horse with the ability to take this race out first up and he has trialled pretty well on a couple of occasions for his return.
Better Rock On (Race 5 No.8) $2.50
In two wins since transferring from NZ this guy has run some blistering time including a 57.7sec last half at Warragul which is low flying and a 1:55.7 mile rate at Ballarat. He managed to overcome a similar draw two starts back and while this is a little rise in class, I can’t see anything stopping him here.
Best Value ($5 win x $15 place)
Volatile Girl (Race 8 No.5) $12
This girl was stuck behind tiring horses last time and got dragged right back to last but make no mistake, she hit the line really well when charging into sixth late. Another 50 metres would have seen her improve a few more placings as well. Importantly she is no one trick pony, if she has to do some work that won’t be too much of a disadvantage and given this is a little drop in class, I think she is a serious place threat.
Best Roughie ($15 place)
Happy Hombre (Race 7 No.1) $51
This guy generally begins safely and while I concede his winning chances are almost nil with Our Dreamlover (7) and Quite A Moment (8) in the race, he is super consistent and with a soft run along the pegs I can see him getting home into second or third at massive odds. His run five starts ago to be beaten just four metres behind Desert Spur is proof that he can be amongst it if things fall his way.
The Money Race
Race 1 ($36 worth of Flexi Trifecta’s)
As mentioned, Mumbai Majik (5) is worthy of top pick in this race but I think we can bank two trifectas around Yourworthwaitingfor (1), Gotta Go Party (2) and Clipper (6) to run the placings and boost our dividend a little further.
