I have to say I’m pretty glad that Andrew Evans has come on board for this meeting because it is a very tricky punting card indeed. Despite being Victoria’s newest and fastest track, Swan Hill surprisingly favours on-pace runners so I’m targeting two likely leaders in a skinny All-Up while also targeting one Best Value bet, two Best Roughies and a range of staggered Quads.

Best Bets/All-Up ($25)

Carbon Cate (Race 3 no. 3) $2.50
This mare certainly doesn’t win out of turn but she is a quick beginner who should either lead or race very handy here and in a field bereft of any Shayne Cramp-trained stars or horses on the rise she should get her chance to break through tonight.

Spokeswoman (Race 7 no. 2) $1.75

This mare enjoyed a great second half of last season and will relish the drop in grade from last start where she took on the HBV 3YO Classic.

Best Value ($10 x $15)

Cashisking (Race 4 no. 1) $5.50
This is a reasonably strong race for such a small field but the above pacer has a good record at his best and did win a recent Echuca trial so he is worth a punt if the price holds up.

Best Roughies ($10 X $15)

Patos Wallet (Race 5 no. 9) $11
I love backing interlopers when they head to the northern region and given this bloke is actually very talented and may well benefit from some fireworks at the start I think he can finish on dangerously and figure on the podium.

Elle Jasper (Race 7 no. 8) $13

Generally speaking, this mare loves to begin quickly from front line draws before handing up in transit in search of a soft peg-line run. She draws the second line here but should still end up in one of her favourite roles either behind the leader or three pegs and she can make her presence felt fron either position.

This bloke has recently produced some top notch performances in much tougher class than he meets tonight. Expect him to go forward early and control things in the small field.

I am willing to overlook his three runs this prep as he hasn’t been suited by his awkward draws. His inside draw tonight will enable him to secure a soft run behind the expected leader Spokeswoman (2) and if he puts his best foot forward the $11 looks good each way value.
