Today’s programme closely follows the tradition of recent
days where small fields and short priced favourites do look the go, but we have
made some very good profits over the weekend which is proof that these sorts of
meetings are often juicier than those w/ wide open and often confusing fields.
Anything short of five from eight winners today could be classed as a failure
so I’m attacking my five Best Bets in what could be a very handy Formula 3
while also targeting one Money Race, several Quads and a Best Roughie straight
out for the place.
Best Bets/Formula 4 ($100 gets 25 units)
Yankee Rockstar (Race 1 no. 7) $1.10
I obviously wouldn’t mention this unbeaten youngster as a
Best Bet unless we were playing a Multi as he’ll be unbelievable short but w/
his race record and a very impressive trial behind him this should be a low
risk way to kick off the card.
Nimble Jack (Race 4 no. 8) $3.20
I think we’ll be extraordinarily lucky to get anything close
to $3.20 about this guy but even at flip of the coin odds he looks a super bet.
The draw is awkward but he can either sit behind likely leader Forever Arma
(1) and outsprint that horse late or drop out and come around them late.
It’s well worth remembering that he speared home in 55.9 beating Rule Like A
King and co at Alexandra Park earlier this year and I can’t imagine any of his
rivals doing that.
Badewitz (Race 5 no. 8) $2.80
This is another case where the class runner must contend w/
the worst possible draw but I expect Webster will just drop out here wait for
the dust to settle then round them up in the lane.
Fearless Leader (Race 7 no. 9) $2.70
This guy may have been beaten by 14m first-up at Melton but
that was against the flying Lombo Toscannini and he beat the rest by almost as
far. Central to his chances here are the fact that there is plenty of front
line speed and if he can settle off them and run on at his leisure then I think
he’s the Best Bet all day, especially at the price.
Best Roughie ($20 Place)
Grinning Conman (Race 8 no. 3) $41
This is something of a Hail Mary so you should not break the
bank but this horse has always had ability and if he’s half the horse who was
burning up the trials a year ago he should run a place here at pretty handy
odds.
The Money Race – Race 1
Put simply, Yankee Rockstar (7) should just roll to
the top here and lead his rivals a merry dance and if he follows Holdonsu
(6) across then that horse should be running second. The only little fly in
the ointment could be Su You Too (1) who improved a thousand yards last
start and may land the silver medal himself.

7/ 6/ Field/ 1. $10 gets 250%
