The Game
Plan for Stawell – with Jason Bonnington (@jasonbonnington)
Best Bet
Lombo
Cloud Nine (Race 4 no. 6) ($1.80)
This mare
makes things hard on herself as she doesn’t have much gate speed and often does
a power of work to get into her races but she has been in great form and this
event suits. Two key factors in her favour are the fact that three runners in
particular (Peaces Of You, Ruffiano, The Adriatic) all begin quickly and should
ensure a fast lead time and that with the small field she’ll have less horses
to get past than in many recent runs.
Best
Quinellas
Waterslide
(Race 6 no. 2) & Cyclades (Race 6 no. 5)
These two are
very different pacers but I’m confident they represent the best one-two punch
on the programme. The theory is that Waterslide will cross the polemarker soon
after the start then either hold the lead with Cyclades sitting quietly in the
chair or hand the lead to Cyclades in the hope of out-sprinting him late in the
race. There are a few question marks here but that only means better value so
take the Quinella plus a range of multiple bets.

Black
Booker (Racing Today)
Tannissa
(Race 2 no. 3) ($3)
This very
well bred mare first came under notice on Maryborough Cup day when racing tough
throughout and only going down narrowly behind Umi. She was brave again last
time after racing tough once more behind Jasmine Sheffield and this little drop
in grade combined with her handy draw should make her very tough to beat today.

Star
Trialler (Racing Today)
Back On
Deck (Race 1 no. 4) ($16)
He trialled
well at Ballarat before an ordinary display when unwanted in betting on debut
but has since buttered up with another trial win, this time at Maryborough
where he downed Foldem and co finishing off in 59.2. Difficult to know what
he’ll do back at the races but well worth monitoring betting for any key moves.
Black
Bookers (Gunbower yesterday)
Kyvalley
Roy
This guy came
under notice with his close-up placing behind Kasyanov in the Maryborough
Trotters Cup and was impressive once again when travelling on the turn but only
getting out very late at Gunbower yesterday. He is relishing the Country Cup
circuit and should break through at that level sooner rather than later. Click here to view the run.
Run
Forrest
He is a
one-paced warrior but his second run for Glenn Douglas when almost overcoming
farcical early fractions for a 1390m race was a ripper. As mentioned, he is
best suited when able to push forward and pour the pressure on as he doesn’t
have great change-up speed but expect him to pinch a suitable race in coming
weeks. Click here to view the run.

This bloke is
no stranger to the Good Form Black Book and he continues to race in great
heart, as evidenced by his luckless run in the last at Gunbower yesterday when
rattling home after finally getting clear in the lane behind Conflict Of
Interest. The John Newberry team is very reliable and this guy will be winning
again soon. Click here to view the run.
