Good Form Cobram - Early Edition

The Game Plan for Cobram – with Jason Bonnington (@jasonbonnington)

Best Bet
Modern Mary (Race 5 no. 7) ($2.10)
She is a lovable mare that almost always puts herself into the race. She couldn’t have been more impressive smashing her rivals from the top end last time out & whether she works her way to the top or sits parked today it would be a shock to see her get rolled in this.

Best Quinella
Catchthateye (Race 8 no. 2) & Renayben (Race 8 no. 10)
Put simply, this is a pretty weak race and the top two in commission appear to have a big advantage on their rivals. It’s hard to know where they’ll settle in the run but it really shouldn’t matter, they should still fight out the finish.

Best Trifectas
Race 5
7/ 1,3,8/ 1,3,8. $30 gets 500%.
7/ 1,3,8/ 9,10,11,12. $30 gets 250%.

Race 8

2,10/ 2,10/ 1,12. $20 gets 500%.

Quaddies x 4 ($100 spend)

1,2,7,8,9,12/ 1,3/ 1,2,4,5,6/ 9. $20 gets 33.33%.
1,2,7,8,9,12/ 1,3/ 1,2,4,5,6/ 2,5,7. $20 gets 11.11%.

Star Triallers (Racing Tonight)

Nowitzki (Race 1 no. 10) ($1.70)
This bloke ran one of the strangest trials you’re ever likely to see when left alone in front, then crossed down the back straight the final time before rallying late to win at Shepparton on the 30th of last month. He is an odd body but has loads of talent & should be too good today. Click here to view the trial.

Storm Maker (Race 2 no. 1) ($8.50)
This guy has trialled a few times in preparation for today’s first-up run. He was impressive finishing off in less than 58 seconds winning a Shepparton qualifier then stuck on nicely when taking on the fast class pacers at his most recent trial. Click here to view his winning trial on October 25.

Brother Francis (Race 6 no. 9) ($26)
He is a seven-year-old who resumes for new trainer Thomas Parnell today that did impress when beaten just 4m in a handy Bendigo trial this time last week. He takes on a winnable race and may be worth an Each Way wager at pretty big odds.

Black Booker (St Arnaud – Sunday)

Rodrigo
This bloke was near enough to last on at the 400m mark on a day where leaders dominated and if not for being held-up looking for runs he would have finished within a few metres of St Arnaud Pacing Cup winner Buriton Bailey. He’s a very talented horse who would be suited in a race like the Gunbower Cup this Sunday if trainer Tim Bolitho set him for the race. Click here to view the run.

Good Form tip

Yesterday at St Arnaud was a classic example of why Speed Maps are so important if you’re hoping to win on harness racing’s biggest days. In all, SIX horses who were leading at the bell went on to win their races while the other two races were taken out by Cyclades, who raced in the breeze for most of the race and Posimistic, who sat on the leaders back. Half-mile tracks are particularly susceptible to leader domination so be wary of backing horses off handicaps in any Choice Hotels Country Cup staged on an 800m course.
