Best Bets ($80 All Up)
Primo Cavalier (Race 3 No.1) $1.60
This guy hasn’t necessarily shown blistering gate speed and while Scout Hall Road (2) can get out pretty well, I think if Nathan Jack gets busy he can hold that horse out and his form around the APG series, where he ran fifth in the consolation beaten just over a length, is good enough to be a little too good for his challengers today.
Fifty Shades (Race 5 No.6) $1.80
Although this guy doesn’t have brilliant gate speed and both A Special Dream (1) and/or Arma Augustus (4) should hold him with some ease early, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him keep rolling forward after the start and take the top from whichever horse is first to the pegs. Even if he has to do some work in the run, his last start second where he split Mulgrave and Williamlee was simply a class above this race.
Best Value ($50 win)
Smouldering Desire (Race 4 No.3) $5
After being produced at the Shepparton trials on a few occasions now, I’m convinced this filly could be pretty smart. She’s done it within herself on almost every occasion and while it can be hard to guage at the qualifiers, she’s also shown some gate speed to go with it. Add that to the fact she is a half-relation to Smolda and I’m not sure we will see the $5 marked in today’s paper but she is still worth a nibble all the same.
