All-Up/ Formula 4
It’s a tricky day at Stawell but I’ve found five horses that look too good for their rivals with even luck. I’m playing conservatively by taking them in a Formula 4, where only four of them have to win, but if you’re looking for a no-guts-no-glory result then take all five horses in an all-up.
Another Elsu (Race 1 no. 9) $1.80
Simply put, this is a very weak race and he should have too much class, second row draw and all.
Flyin Fox (Race 4 no. 5) $2.50
This guy had nothing go his way last start. The small field suits here and he should be too good.
Alta Antonio (Race 5 no. 4) $2
The best heat winner for this final and an easy winner again last start, only bad luck can beat him.
Run Ripalong (Race 6 no. 7) $1.50
Promising former NSW pacer having first start for Kerryn Manning, he is the Best Bet of the day.
Ben Cartwright (Race 7 no. 6) $2
The scratching of Ardlussa Express has done his cause no end of good and he should get the prize.
I reiterate that I’m playing safe here. Stawell can be a tricky track at the best of times so four out of five would be a great result but IF you go all-out the All-up should pay at least $20 per $1 invested.
Quaddies (x3) - $100 outlay
No Guts No Glory
5/ 4/ 7/ 6. $16 gets 1600%.
Safe but skinny
3,4,5/ 4/ 7/ 1,6. $36 gets 600%.
For those with a fear of failure
3,4,5/ 1,4,9,10/ 7/ 1,6. $48 gets 200%.
Star Trialler
Striking Tom (Race 3 no. 3) $5
This guy resumes for new trainer Michael Stanley today fresh from a more than handy trial effort when a head behind Black Coyote through a 58-second final half at Maryborough on Feb 17. He has a terrible figure formline but all indications are that he does have some talent and in a race bereft of any substantial talent he can show up today.
