I was really impressed by his Aussie debut here in the Hondo Grattan where he did all the work and cruised away to win in 1min51.6sec with something in reserve. He takes on the best 4YO’s in Australasia today but he draws the best of the big guns and I think he will get the cash.

I was really taken by his Derby heat effort last week when sustaining a long run from the rear in slick late sectionals behind Majestic Mach. He has a much better barrier this time around and with the likelihood he’ll find the lead I’m sure Dexter Dunn will give him every possible hope of success.

As mentioned above I’m pretty keen on Christen Me (4) to get the job done here but there is no doubt that Restrepo (5), Smolda (12), Jason Rulz (11) and Im Victorious (8) are in with a shot at knocking him off so I’m going to play the Trifectas below for a $100 outlay.

I’m not sure she’s a moral but there are none on the programme and she was super impressive winning her heat of the Oaks when working early and hitting the line hard last weekend. It’s a wide open race but she’s got good form, barrier one and Group 1 Gavin Lang; what more could you want?

There’s been huge talk this week about superstar Stig (7) but his compatriot above is a noted frontrunner who has drawn barrier one and could not be better suited. He was only beaten 2m by Stig (7) after working two starts back and can certainly turn the tables on that comeback kid today.

Even with the Inter Dominion final on the same card this race is nearly the highlight of the day with standouts Christen Me (4), Restrepo (5) and Smolda (12) and WA star Im Victorious (8) most prominent. That being said, I think the skinny Trifecta outlined below might be the best way to play.

The only question mark with this equine machine is whether the trip to Australia has been too tough on his aging, battered body. If not he is a class above this lot who will only benefit from what should be a record-breaking early tempo so grab the fixed odds while their still available with TAB.

An outstanding Victorian mare having her first campaign for Emma Stewart, she returns to the scene of her greatest triumph today at Menangle. A winner of this race third-up in 2011, she is racing just as well now as she was then, so at the double figure quote she can certainly repeat the dose.

Arguably today’s most anticipated, the Chariots of Fire will see three equine freaks in Christen Me (4), Restrepo (5) and Smolda (12) do battle. Between them, they should fight the race out but there are a couple of other unsung heroes here who can fill a hole at least, so I’m playing two Trifectas outlined below and expecting a result.

A Breeders Crown champion last season, he produced the most eye-catching run from three NSW Derby heats last Saturday night when charging home from last to go down fighting behind Majestic Mach. He should find the early lead form his favourable draw and get every chance as a result.
Stats That Matter
* There have only been two Victorian trained Inter Dominion champions since 1990. Caribbean Blaster Jaccka Clive, Keayang Cullen, Bitobliss and Mah Sish will represent Victoria today
* 14 of the past 23 Inter Dominion champions have started $5 or less. Terror To Love ($3.20), Im Themightyquinn ($3.60 and Caribbean Blaster ($5) are all $5 or less with TAB Fixed Odds.
* Since 1997 all but two ID winners have been trained and driven by the same person or a family member. Jaccka Clive, Chariot King, Terror To Love, Mysta Magical Mach and Lincoln Royal will be looking to arrest that trend.
* Only once since 1990 has the ID winner come from the state which hosted the Inter Dominion one year prior. Im Themightyquinn and Mysta Magical Mach both hail from last year’s host state, WA.
