The Game Plan for Wangaratta - with Jason Bonnington (@jasonbonnington)
To be fair, it's never very easy betting at these once-a-year tracks for obvious reasons but the general rule of thumb - with all of them (even Gunbower) - is that you'll want to be right on the speed or a mile too good for your rivals. To that end, I've found 1 Best Bet I think can lead & win, 2 Best Roughies who should race right on the pace and 1 Best Value I think is good enough to overcome her second line draw. Plus of course some Quads!
Best Bet ($60 Win)
Earth Angel (Race 8 no. 1) $2.40
I'm envisaging a big night for David Aiken here which should finish up with the above pacer claiming the final event. She's not a brilliant beginner but this isn't a fast front line and if she can hold her rivals wide early I can't see them running her down.
Best Value ($30 Each Way)
Beach Shack (Race 6 no. 10) $7
This is another David Aiken-trained commodity who has bee having a super season. The draw is a big obstacle but I just think she's got something on these & will only need a hint of luck to vanquish this lot late.
Best Roughies ($10 x $20)
Gazoline (Race 5 no. 2) $13
This is a typically strong Country Trotters Cup but you could do much worse than to have 1x2 or 1x3 on this bloke given he's the almost certain leader and will give them something to catch.
Gumdrops (Race 7 no. 2) $11
The absence of a sprint lane here isn't ideal for this girl but she looks a great chance of lobbing the gun run in behind the leader and if the heavens open her turn of foot could be the difference in the lane.
The Quads (x2 for $120)
2,8,10,11/ 4,5,6,7,10/ 2,4,6,7,9,10,11/ 1. $70 gets 50%
2,8,10,11/ 4,5,6,7,10/ 2,4,6,7,9,10,11/ 2,6,9. $50 gets 11.9%
