Good Form Preview - Saturday Night @ The GSS

The Game Plan for Great Southern Star Night – with Jason Bonnington (@jasonbonnington)
We’re finally here; the final feature meeting at Melton for the ‘Summer’ so it’s unsurprising that I’m keen to punt.  Sadly, I’m neither eager to support or pot the multitude of red-figure favourites on this evening’s programme but I am keen to involve myself in some pretty rich exotics and both the early and normal quads. I’ve also found one at a price so let’s get stuck in to how we’re going to play.

Best Roughie ($10 x $30)

Josephine Jones (Race 8 no. 1) $16/$3.22 TAB Fixed Odds
The Breed For Speed Gold Series Final is probably my most anticipated race of the night and while I haven’t got the above mare in my first three tips I still think she’s showing great value with tab.com.au. She’ll need a few things to go right at the start but if they do the $16 will look very nice indeed.

The Money Races

Race 5
Maori Time (4) is the class horse engaged here and if she gets the front without spending too much gas she will prove too good but if she gets posted then Queens Vacation (2) and Paris Pepperell (9) are legitimate blowout hopes. The race outside them is pretty skinny too so play the tricks below and we should get rewarded.
4/ 2,9/ 2,8,9. $40 gets 1000%
4/ 2,9/ 3,5,6,10. $24 gets 300%
2,9/ 4/ 2,8,9. $12 gets 300%
2,9/ 4/ 3,5,6,10. $4 gets 50%

Race 6
We have a very similar situation to the previous race here with Maori Time replaced by Claudys Princess (6). Her two key foes on this occasion are likely leader Illawong Moonshine (4) and the very smart Majestic Grace (5). Between them that trio should dominate then we’ll hope for some value in the bronze medal role.

6/ 4,5/ 4,5,9. $40 gets 1000%
6/ 4,5/ 2,3,7,8. $24 gets 300%
4,5/ 6/ 4,5,9. $12 gets 300%
4,5/ 9/ 2,3,7,8. $4 gets 50%

The EARLY Quads (x4 for $120)
4,8/ 11/ 1/ 1,3,6. $45 gets 750%
4,8/ 11/ 2,3/ 1,3,6. $30 gets 250%
4,8/ 1,2/ 1/ 1,3,6. $30 gets 250%
6,11/ 11/ 1/ 1,3,6. $15 gets 250%

The Quads (x5 for $120)
4/ 6/ 2,3/ 3,6,11. $34 gets 566.67%
4/ 6/ 2,3/ 1,10. $8 gets 200%
4/ 6/ 1,4,5,7,10/ 3,6,11. $30 gets 200%
4/ 4,5/ 2,3/ 3,6,11. $24 gets 200%
2,9/ 6/ 2,3/ 3,6,11. $24 gets 200%

Tabcorp Park Trainer Talk – David Aiken
Best Chance
Spidergirl (Race 8 no.11) $2.80 TAB Fixed Odds – Click here to bet on this horse now
“Spidergirl I thought her run was terrific. Her and Cold Sister made 10 metres up the back straight when they went a 58.6 quarter. Vics Cheval has really come ahead but I’ve never really put her in the same class.”

Others
Dizzyinterest (Race 2 no.11) $1.60 – Click here to bet on this horse now
“She can be a little erratic at times and breaking at the gate she did a lot of work to find the front. She finished off okay in fourth and it was only her first run back so she should be better for it.

“As a three-year-old she wasn’t far behind Vics Cheval with Spidergirl better than them. She can do things wrong but she has her fair share of ability.”

Cold Sister (Race 3 no.6) $21 TAB Fixed Odds – Click here to bet on this horse now
“She has that early speed so over the short trip we will see how it pans out but we usually go forward with her and try to find someone to sit on. That would probably be the plan I’d say.

“It’s a great race to be a part of and she has shown she has been competitive with the boys. It was a hard decision but we made the same decision last year and we didn’t regret it.”

The Dude Abides (Race 4 no.5) $51 TAB Fixed Odds – Click here to bet on this horse now
“He’s got to improve  a lot this week. The vet checked him out and everything is good so he will press on.”

My High Expectations (Race 4 no.6) $4.20 TAB Fixed Odds – Click here to bet on this horse now
“It was just one of those races that didn’t pan out. Chris (Lang) probably drove to get the good sit on us with Kyvalley Blur but then he was hung out three wide and that put us wide for the last mile and then Chris couldn’t take me into it.

“I thought his run was very good last week. There’s a lot of speed inside but I think I’ll be going forward to get a spot there somewhere.

“It’s a really even series with Stent and Flying Isa, Blitzthemcalder so it’s pretty strong but I couldn’t be happier with my bloke.”

Im Havinaball (Race 6 no.7) $14 – Click here to bet on this horse now
“She keeps improving and I think up the track she will narrow the gap to Claudys Princess. She is the benchmark filly at the moment so to run second to her the other day was pleasing. My filly has a lot of experience to gain in terms of her gait but I do really like her.”

Brylin Crescent (Race 7 no.10) $18 TAB Fixed Odds – Click here to bet on this horse now
“She is another one that is out of the draw and she just broke last time but Josh (Aiken) drove her and said she felt pretty good after the break.

“Her figure form doesn’t read that well but I think she is going a little better than on paper so she is a definite place chance.”

Vics Cheval (Race 8 no.10) $3.30 TAB Fixed Odds – Click here to bet on this horse now
“Both the mares were really good in their work this week. They are obviously out the draw which makes it a bit tough.

“Vics Cheval just went terrific last time. She has always been a level below Spidergirl but she might be starting to bridge the gap and I couldn’t ask any more of her.”

Sectionals
To view the sectional splits of EVERY HORSE in EVERY RACE at Melton last Saturday night simply click here.

As a snapshot below, here are some of the star sectional performers at Melton last weekend.

Fastest Last Mile – Blazeaway Macray: 1:54.11

Fastest Last Half – Carpenters Daughter: 54.41secs
Fastest Last Quarter – Lovable Larrikin: 26.89secs

Sectional Superstar
Tender Don (Race 3 no.7) – $81 – Click here to bet on this horse now
Sectional punters will be playing for luck in one of tonight’s features but it’s hard to knock the way Tender Don finished off last week.

He came home in 56.9secs and 27.61secs which is blistering for a squaregaiter and despite the wide alley tonight, if he gets the splits at the right time, he can sneak into third at massive place odds.

Speed Maps

Race 1
*This speed map is a representation of where HRVs form team believes each horse will be in running at the bell lap.
Speed: This race boasts a fast front line but the speed will be dictated by how long it takes MISTER GUNSEN (4) to find the front and whether THE BOSS MAN (8) gets clear early to apply some mid-race pressure.
Likely Leader: MISTER GUNSEN (4)
Best Closers: THE BOSS MAN (8), ROSTEVARREN (6) and TRIUMPHANT MONARCH (11)

Race 2
*This speed map is a representation of where HRVs form team believes each horse will be in running at the bell lap.
Speed: There shouldn’t be too many fireworks after the start here but the pace will be driven by whether DIZZYINTEREST (11) stays in gait early and if she does - how much she wants the lead.
Likely Leader:  RUSSIAN TIAVON (2) or DIZZYINTEREST (11)
Best Closers: NOMISTAKINGPEGASUS (4), ELLE GALLEON (7) and I DREAMT IT (10)

Race 3
*This speed map is a representation of where HRVs form team believes each horse will be in running at the bell lap.
Speed: The early speed should be brutal here here with STENT (1) and ALEPPO MIDAS (3) both quick enough out and CYCLONE JACK (4) and COLD SISTER (6) genuinely brilliant off the arm. Then once they drop anchor BLITZTHEMCALDER (2) will come knocking.
Likely Leader: CYCLONE JAKE (4)
Best Closers: STENT (1), BLITZTHEMCALDER (2) and ALEPPO MIDAS (3)

Race 4
*This speed map is a representation of where HRVs form team believes each horse will be in running at the bell lap.
Speed: There is very good speed spread right across the front line here so things should get willing early but if FLYING ISA (1) holds his rivals out easily then they may drop anchor through the middle stages and just ping home late.
Likely Leader: FLYING ISA (1)
Best Closer: KEYSTONE DEL (3) and MY HIGH EXPECTATIONS (6)

Race 5
*This speed map is a representation of where HRVs form team believes each horse will be in running at the bell lap.
Speed: All of the first four front line runner shave some early toe but the mid-race pace will be dictated by when and if MAORI TIME (4) finds the front. If she lobs there quickly she’ll stack them up for sure.
Likely Leader: MAORI TIME (4)
Best Closers: QUEENS VACATION (2) and PARIS PEPPERELL (9)

Race 6
*This speed map is a representation of where HRVs form team believes each horse will be in running at the bell lap.
Speed: ILLAWONG MOONSHINE (4) holds the key here as she’s a sizzling beginner on her day that usually gets pulling once finds the top. For that fact alone this should be run at a genuine tempo.
Likely Leader: ILLAWONG MOONSHINE (4) or CLAUDYS PRINCESS (6)
Best Closer: MAJESTIC GRACE (5)

Race 7
*This speed map is a representation of where HRVs form team believes each horse will be in running at the bell lap.
Speed: NEVILLE VAUGHAN (7) holds the key here as he can fly out when right but didn’t give a yelp from the front line in the Knight Pistol two starts back. If he flies early there will be a brutal pace but if not then GLENFERRIE DREAMER (3) should lead with BRUNELLESCHI (2) parked and they’ll only travel at an even clip.
Likely Leader: GLENFERRIE DREAMER (3) or NEVILLE VAUGHAN (7)
Best Closers: BRUNELLESCHI (2), EL PACO (4) and SAVANNAH WAY (5)

Race 8
*This speed map is a representation of where HRVs form team believes each horse will be in running at the bell lap.
Speed: Most of the front line runners here can really burn early so there’ll be fireworks at the start. The overall tempo will be dictated by how fast they find their positions because there are no genuine enforcers who’ll just sit parked and drill.
Likely Leader: QUITE A MOMENT (3) or SHES AN IMAGE (6)
Best Closers: JOSEPHINE JONES (1), VICS CHEVAL (10) and SPIDERGIRL (11)

Race 10
*This speed map is a representation of where HRVs form team believes each horse will be in running at the bell lap.
Speed: MOTU YOUNG JACOB (5) only knows one way with a saddle on his back so they will run throughout.
Likely Leader: MOTU YOUNG JACOB (5)
Best Closers: LYSENKO (3) and GO AHEAD MAKEMYDAY (4)?

Race 11
*This speed map is a representation of where HRVs form team believes each horse will be in running at the bell lap.
Speed: They’ll rattle the first few hundred metres and if ASDENRO (5) doesn’t find the top he’ll likely just keep rolling to turn this into a staying test.
Likely Leader: GUILTLESS (3) or ASDENRO (5)

Best Closers: WEREGONNAROCK (6)
